Learn more about Megan, and her life as a Graphic Designer at an ecommerce agency like Demac below…
Name: Megan Hunter
Role: Graphic Designer
Department: Design (woop woop!)
Time served at Demac: 7 months
1. How did you find Demac, or how did Demac find you?
Demac was described to me as a fast paced, play hard, work hard sort of environment, turns out that’s pretty accurate. Those words were brought to you by Christine the Director of Marketing. It’s only been seven months but I’m amazed by people’s passion here at Demac.
2. What’s your work-day beverage of choice? What’s your Friday afternoon beverage of choice?
The daytime for me is matched with an americano, however Friday night you’ll catch me with a craft beer in my hand.
3. How would you explain your job/role to a 5 year old?
You know how artists use paint to draw pictures? I apply paint to a website.
4. How do you explain what you do to your parents?
I design user experiences, both internally and externally for a variety of clients. At the end of the day I advance branding, websites, and interfaces.
5. Demac is a flexible workplace….what hours of the day (or night!) do you prefer to work or get your best work done?
I come in typically the standard hours, but if I’m being honest – I am a nighthawk. I like working late what can I say my creative juices aren’t always full swing from 9 to 5.
6. What did you study in school? Is it relevant to what you do now?
I attended OCAD University and received a Bachelors of Fine Arts and Graphic Design, It taught me the fundamentals, however this industry is always changing so you have to keep educating yourself. No matter what.
7.What song are you loving at the moment to listen to while you work? (or which was the last song played on your spotify?)
This band is sort of an obsession. If you like math rock and or post-rock this is probably your jam….

8. What meme/gif/video makes you laugh the most?
9. What’s your favourite site to buy from? And/or Which eCommerce site do you think is amazing?
100% Check it out for yourself: www.everlane.com
I always mention this site to my Demacians, I just, “blah blah blah Everlane is so great!”, all the time.
10. How do you balance work and life? / What do you like to do after you leave the office?
For me, I find that work and life are not separate entities, but rather a blend. I am constantly looking for inspiration wherever I go. I go to art galleries, several concerts a year. I love that there are creatives all around, so it important to soak that all in.
11.What are you interested in that most people haven’t heard of?
Something people don’t know about me is that I do leather making on the side, I’ve made a backpack, several pursues and a belt. I attended the MakeDen in Toronto close to Dufferin and Bloor. They offer a variety of classes, I have taken the screen-printing and leather making course. They offer sewing classes and just everything craft. For me it’s a great way to make real items, and gifts for others.

12. What do you love about working at Demac?
Everyone says the people. But for me I’d have to say the passion… people care here. They want to make their best work and that’s unique.
13. Do you live Demac’s values in your everyday life? (empathy, compassion, ownership)
(Creativity) is all about how you approach a task, (Empathy) is working together and collaboration to reach the end product, (Ownership) for me equals communication, knowing your limits but also knowing your capacity is how I live the Demac values.
14.What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to shopping online/in stores/etc.
In store I find that I am a very generic size, so my size is usually sold out. Online I think an equal amount of lifestyle and product shots are key for a good business strategy. If the model is crunched in a ball and I can’t see the top, I am not going to buy it period. It’s all about having a balance.
15. What have you done at Demac that you’re most proud of?
When someone tells you that you get to look at NASA space photography to get inspiration for a project coming down the pipeline. You know you work at a good place. Check it out for yourself (below) “The Retailers Guide to the Galaxy”.
