Our next Demac employee to be featured in the “Meet The Demacians” series, is a real go-getter who joined the Business Development team in the Summer of 2017! Since becoming an official Demacian, Marketing Coordinator Sadaf Romasi has worn many hats, from helping to write and schedule blog posts like “How Retail is Being Shaped by Machine-Learning Applications”, to qualifying new leads, to planning an amazing office Holiday Party, and even helping our in-house Shopify product – Pela Case – get orders shipped!
Its this drive and adaptability demonstrated by employees like Sadaf makes Demac a better place to work for, and with!
To get to know more about Sadaf, and being a Marketing Coordinator at an agency like Demac, read on below…
Name: Sadaf Romasi
Role: Marketing Coordinator
Department: Business Development (BD)
Time served at Demac: 8 months
1. How did you find Demac, or how did Demac find you?
I knew the VP of Sales. He got me an interview with the President, the Director of Accounts and Christine MacDonald, the Director of Marketing.
2. What’s your work-day beverage of choice? What’s your Friday afternoon beverage of choice?
Coffee or green tea while I’m working, wine or tequila (all class, all the time) when I’m not.
3. How would you explain your job/role to a 5 year old?
I plan fun activities to make Demac popular!
4. How do you explain what you do to your parents?
I make sure our Sales team get qualified leads through the door through various marketing activities such as drip campaigns and conferences. I also plan both our internal and external events and I assist the rest of the Marketing team with their day to day activities as well.
5. Demac is a flexible workplace….what hours of the day (or night!) do you prefer to work or get your best work done?
At night time, I like to plan out what I need to get done the following day. This way when I get in at 8am, I already know what I need to get done for the day and can start right away. 8am to 12pm is definitely prime time for me in terms of getting work done. Because I live really far from the office, I like head out before rush hour starts (around 4ish) so I’m not stuck on the highway for hours.
6. What did you study in school? Is it relevant to what you do now?
I started my undergrad in Economics and Finance, but after realizing I hated economics more than anything I’ve ever hated in my entire life, I switched to Marketing and loved it. So I’d say the latter part of my education is definitely relevant to what I do now.
7.What song are you loving at the moment to listen to while you work? (or which was the last song played on your spotify?)
I’ll listen to everything from Country to Trap, but I have a soft spot for R&B. Here’s a screenshot of my recently played music, but looking at these screenshots I’ve realized I have a very ‘Toronto girl’ taste in music….sigh.
8. What meme/gif/video makes you laugh the most?
Because it’s true
9. What’s your favourite site to buy from? And/or Which eCommerce site do you think is amazing?
Love shopping on Zara’s website, because the delivery time is amazing and the product pages are done well.
10. How do you balance work and life? / What do you like to do after you leave the office?
It gets hard to sometimes, because I work two jobs. If I’m not at Demac, I’m probably either working at my second job as a server at a restaurant in the Greater Toronto Area, or just hanging out with friends. I’d probably go crazy without them, they keep me sane and grounded.
11.What are you interested in that most people haven’t heard of?
It’s a toss up between interior design and trashy British reality shows. I could spend HOURS on Pinterest looking at living rooms, but I can also spend hours watching Ex On The Beach or The Only Way Is Essex. I can now do a pretty close to perfect Essex accent because of it!
12. What do you love about working at Demac?
The flexible work hours, and the office culture. The office is always good vibes, and the people are all super supportive and extremely nice! The one thing that really makes me excited to come into work everyday is our Business Development team. The BD team feels like my second family, I have so much love and respect for our small 8 person team
13. Do you live Demac’s values in your everyday life? (empathy, compassion, ownership)
I like to think I do. I’m a very transparent person and I’m not afraid to speak my mind. Because of this, I need to always make sure I have complete ownership of everything I do and say! Since I’m so outspoken , people tend to think I’m a little heartless (the bitchy resting face doesn’t help either)- but that’s very far from the truth. I’m EXTREMELY sensitive and I care a lot about the people close to me…that makes me compassionate and empathetic, right?
14.What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to shopping online/in stores/etc.
For online shopping, it’s when you view a product page and when you press back it takes you to the top of the previous page instead of where you left off. When you’ve been scrolling through like 300 sweaters, it’s extremely annoying to have to restart the scrolling process.
For shopping in store, it’s commission based sales associates. Please leave me alone
15. What have you done at Demac that you’re most proud of?
One of the first projects I ever did start to finish is the internal Demac Glossary, and it’s the thing I’m most proud of. eCommerce is full of confusing terms, so creating a document for new employees and our clients was nice because the Glossary gives both the wiki definition of the word, and what it means to us at Demac. It simplifies something that can be rather confusing. For an online version of a similar eCommerce Glossary we made, click here.
